How to Release Resistance

Resistance is a state of mind where we feel stuck or blocked, unable to move forward or achieve our goals.

It often stems from negative thoughts, beliefs, and past experiences that create limiting patterns of behavior.

Fortunately though, it is possible to release resistance and open yourself up to new possibilities by addressing these underlying issues. In this blog post, we'll explore three strategies for releasing resistance: removing negative thoughts and beliefs, managing fear of uncertainty and the unknown, and healing from past negative experiences.

When people ask us how long does it take for something to manifest, we say, It takes as long as it takes you to release the RESISTANCE. Could be 30 years, could be 40 years, could be 50 years, could be a week. Could be tomorrow afternoon.

If you’re looking to release negative blocks around love then be sure to check out my video here where I go into detail the kinds of resistance that are possibly holding you back.

Remove Negative Thoughts and Beliefs

Negative thoughts and beliefs can create a self-fulfilling cycle of resistance. When we believe that we can't do something or that things will never work out, we're less likely to feel inspired to take action and we’re more likely to stay stuck.

To release resistance, it's important to challenge and replace negative thoughts and beliefs with more positive and empowering ones.

But how do you actually replace them with more positive thoughts and beliefs?

I have a free template to help you do exactly this, replace old negative thoughts and turn them into positive and uplifting thoughts.

The first step is to start by identifying the negative thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back. Catch them in the moment and write them down and examine them objectively.

Ask yourself if these thoughts and beliefs are based on fact or if they are simply assumptions or perceptions. Be patient with yourself and ask these vital questions.

Challenge them by asking questions such as "Is this really true?" or "What evidence do I have to support this belief?" Even using the word '“Because” can be so powerful in unlocking the resistance you’re holding. You can do this by identifying the belief and saying to yourself “I believe this thought because"…”

You will be amazed to uncover just how many limiting beliefs you’d had that you had no idea about.

Once you've identified and challenged your negative thoughts and beliefs, it's time to replace them with more positive and empowering ones. Focus on the possibilities and opportunities that exist rather than the limitations.

For example, instead of saying "I can't do this," say "I am capable of learning and growing." Repeat these new thoughts and beliefs to yourself regularly until they become a habit.

The more you repeat the new thoughts and beliefs, the more familiar they will become. And the more familiar they are, the more trust you will have in them, which will then make them more believable.

If you have trouble identifying your negative thoughts and capturing them in the moment, read my blog post How to Slow Down Your Thinking for techniques on how to slow down your thought process.

Manage Fear of Uncertainty and the Unknown

Fear of uncertainty is a common cause of resistance. We're often afraid of the unknown and what might happen if we take a risk or step outside our comfort zone.

However, it's important to recognize that uncertainty is a natural part of life and that we can learn to manage our fear of it.

One strategy for managing fear of uncertainty is to focus on the present moment.

Instead of worrying about what might happen in the future, focus on what you can do right now to move forward. Break your goals down into smaller, more manageable steps and take action on them one at a time.

Another strategy is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness involves being fully present and aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Reading a book like The Power of Now is perfect for showing you how you can become more present in your day-to-day life.

When you're feeling anxious or uncertain, take a few moments to focus on your breath and bring your attention back to the present moment.

Finally, it can be helpful to reframe uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and learning. Rather than seeing it as a threat, view it as a chance to explore new possibilities and expand your horizons.

Heal Past Negative Experiences

Past negative experiences can create deep-seated patterns of resistance that can be difficult to overcome. However, it's possible to heal from these experiences and release the resistance they create.

One strategy for healing from past negative experiences is to practice self-compassion.

Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, recognizing that you are not defined by your past experiences. Focus on your strengths and accomplishments, and use them to build your confidence and self-esteem.

One of the best ways of releasing negative experiences is to write them down. Often, when left untouched in the mind, they can grow bigger and create havoc on your life.

Having a journal specific to your mental health can be a great way to start to heal from those past experiences such as this one.

Another strategy is to seek support from others. This could include talking to a trusted friend or family member, joining a support group, or working with a therapist.

I highly recommend Talkspace as a trusted organisation to help you navigate through your feelings and to provide you with the right tools to heal and release the resistance that is holding you back.

Sharing your experiences and feelings with others can help you gain perspective and find new ways to move forward.

Finally, it's important to practice forgiveness. This doesn't mean condoning the behavior of others or minimizing the impact of negative experiences. Rather, it involves letting go of anger and resentment and focusing on your own healing and growth.

So in conclusion, the best and most effective way of releasing resistance involves addressing negative thoughts and beliefs, managing your fear of uncertainty, and healing from past experiences.

Do you struggle with releasing resistance? Do you suffer from anxiety as a result of limiting beliefs or negative past experiences?
